iPhone account

Hi everyone my dad changed his password on his old iTunes account email and doesnt remember it but we can't reset it because the email that it's linked to is now described so there is no way to get an email sent to it to change the settings is there any other way to make a new iTunes account and get his phone to take it as the main account without asking for the old accounts password? Or is the only way to reset the phone completely and start fresh?
